The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Condemns the Inappropriate and Racist Statements of The President of The European Commission
April 28, 2023
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs followed the statements of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, which she made in a video recording on Twitter on the evening of April 27, 2023, as she stated: “Seventy-five years ago, a dream was realized with Israel’s Independence Day… After the greatest tragedy in human history, the Jewish people could finally build a home in the promised land.”
The Foreign Ministry considers these ugly racist statements made by the President of the European Commission as collusion with the Israeli occupation and acceptance of its unjust policies. It is also considered a disregard and blindness to the crimes that have been committed against the Palestinian people from the Nakba until the present time, an ignorance of the developments of the Arab conflict with the Israeli occupation, and a denial of Palestinian rights.
The Ministry calls on the President of the European Commission to apologize for her statements that deny the rights of Palestinians, and represent a collusion with the Israeli occupation. The Ministry also calls on all Arabs to declare her a persona non-grata in all Arab states.
These statements coincide with the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Nakba of the Palestinian people and their expulsion from their land by the Zionist gangs with coercive and barbaric force, resulting in the occupation of the land of Palestine, the displacement of more than two-thirds of its people and the confiscation of their property.
These statements negatively affect the image and credibility of the European Union, which embraces the values of democracy, human rights, and the right to self-determination. It also aligns the European Union with the parties that seek to perpetuate the occupation and undermine the chances of establishing a Palestinian state.
